Intellectual Property and Technology Law Journal


The Charlotte School of Law Intellectual Property and Technology Law Journal (IPLJ) is the school's newest student-run law journal (e-journal), focusing on the practice of Intellectual Property in all of its areas. Applications are being accepted through July 7th for positions on the journal's editorial board.

Journal Membership Requirements include:
 
  • Students must have completed all first year, required courses, including LPI and LPII  before the beginning of Fall 2013.
  • Students must have at least two semesters of study remaining and must also have critical analysis skills and legal writing, editing and blue-booking skills.
  • Students must be able to carry out assignments independently, even under time pressure and short notice.
  • Students should have an interest in at least one of the four areas within the IPLJ.
  • Students must exhibit academic achievement and be in good academic standing with an overall minimum GPA of 2.65.

Access to Justice Journal


The Access to Justice Journal is a student-run organization whose mission is to publish scholarly practice-oriented works covering myriad legal issues focused on serving the underserved. The Access to Justice Journal is intended to be a forum for the the legal community to discussing issues impeding access to justice, and as a tool for law students to further refine their skill in legal writing, editing, and researching. The Access to Justice Journal hosts an annual symposium each year that brings together noted scholars and practitioners to discuss civil access to justice legal questions concerning the pro se and the underserved. Trial Advocacy Team


The Charlotte School of Law Trial Advocacy Team is a student-centered organization led by a team of practicing attorneys focused on developing the skills necessary to be a practicing trial attorney. The Trial Team provides members with many opportunities to strengthen skills of persuasive rhetoric, effective communication, critical analysis of legal issues, teamwork, and quick thinking.

To become a Trial Team member, students must compete in an intense intra-scholastic competition  and then receive an offer to join the team. Once on the team, Trial Team members compete in inter-scholastic, regional, and national trial advocacy competitions. Through hard work and dedication to trial advocacy, the Trial Team gives each member a unique opportunity to walk into a courtroom with confidence, and walk out with success.

The Trial Team has won and ranked in national and regional competitions and as a result, is consistently asked to participate in a number of invitational competitions. The school offers a curriculum to support the trial team, including advanced courses in both pre-trial litigation and trial practice.

Charlotte School of Law is host of the Carolina Invitational Mock Trial Tournament. This annual competition is limited to the nine law schools located in North and South Carolina, and provides students an additional opportunity to gain valuable trial advocacy skills.
 
 

Moot Court


As part of Charlotte School of Law's Moot Court Program, students are provided an array of opportunities to argue appellate cases in simulated exercises, including participation in inter-school competitions both nationally and internationally. Members of the Charlotte School of Law's Moot Court Board are selected through an intra-school competition organized and run by students and judged by prominent members of the legal community. The intra-school competition is named after the Honorable Susie Marshall Sharpe, North Carolina's first female state Supreme Court Chief Justice.

Charlotte School of Law's Moot program is built on traditional and novel ideas. The consistent successes of the Moot Court Board reflect excellence. The Moot Court Board has distinguished itself in many ways including being the recipient of awards for Best Brief, Best Advocate and Best Team. The Charlotte School of Law team was the 2012 winner of the 36th annual New York Law School Robert F. Wagner Labor and Employment Law Moot Court Competition.
