Noise Policy

Noise Policy

The CharlotteLaw Library encourages student collaboration and discussion.  A conversational volume is appropriate in all but the designated Quiet Study Areas.  (See below.)  However, please be considerate of those studying around you.

Patrons whose study is disrupted may contact the Circulation desk.  The staff member on duty will confront the noisy patrons and remind them of the policy.  If the patrons remain noisy, the staff member may ask the patrons to leave.  If the patrons refuse to leave, the staff member may involve campus security.

Persistent public violators of this policy may be banned from the library.  Persistent student violators may be referred to the SBA for further action.

Electronic Devices & Cell Phones
When you enter the Library, please silence all pagers and cell phones.  You may use your phone outside the library entrance, near the elevators.  For laptop computers, please use headphones so that the audio will not bother other library patrons.

Quiet Study Areas
The seating areas near the Treatises collection and the Regional Reporters collection are quiet study areas.  Please do not use these areas for group discussions or collaborative research.

The following areas are not considered quiet study areas:

  • Reference and circulation desks
  • Seating in the Federal I and Federal II areas
  • Room 215 (copier room)
  • Room 244 (classroom)
  • Room 217 (computer lab)

Group Study Rooms
Group study rooms are for the use of CharlotteLaw students and faculty only.  Quiet conversation in study groups is acceptable as long as it doesn’t bother other library patrons.  Groups of two or more have priority for use of the rooms.  An individual using a group room may be asked to relinquish it for a group’s use.
